Carrying your bike on the outside of your car makes life much easier. It's quicker to load up, saves room in your car for kit and passengers and protects your upholstery from mud and grease.
There are two styles of car rack, boot mounted and roof mounted. Boot mounted racks are the simplest to use and can be removed when not needed. There are various mounting options including spare wheel car racks, high mounting version and strap & hook models. Some use a tow-ball mount which keeps the rack away from the car and is very secure.
Most boot racks grip the vehicle with plastic-coated hooks positioned to spread the load. When buying a rack consider how many bikes you regularly need to carry. Racks can take anything from 1-4 bikes. If it's only ever you a smaller rack with room for two bikes may be all you need. You'll also need to check the rack is compatible with the make and model of your car.
Remember to lock your bikes securely to your rack and to the car if you need to leave your vehicle unattended.
