Child seats and trailer bikes
A new addition to the family need not curtail your cycling activities.
Attach a child seat or trailer and introduce your children to cycling as soon as possible.
Even very young children can appreciate the feel of the wind in their hair and the motion of a bicycle. As your child becomes bigger then can feel they are contributing by purchasing a tag-a-long.
Start them off early and hopefully they'll be a cyclist for life!
Childseat Advice
Childseats can be purchased for as little as £15, but we believe that it is worth spending as much as you can on a safe, correctly fitting childseat.
Better quality childseats offer carrying capacity of up to 40lbs, and by also offering a range of adjustment, multi-point harnesses and head supports, the seat can accomodate a child sometimes as young as 6 months old.
The general recommendation for when you can use a childseat is over 6 months of age, when the child can support their own head. It is also very important to then not exceed the maximum weight, as not only is the seat built to withstand the stresses of this weight, but riding is made much more difficult if you are carrying larger than recommended weights.
The seats we sell can be fitted in-store at home with a minimum amount of tools. Fitting is crucial from a safety point of view, and very clear instructions are included, but if you are in any doubt about the fitting of your seat, please ensure that you have a qualified cycle mechanic inspect it for you.
Trailer Bike Advice
Also known as a "Tag-A-Long" Trailer Bikes offer the opportunity to share your cycling experiences with your child. Models with and without gears are available, and the age range for Trailer Bikes is generally around 4 years up to as old as 9 years depending on weight.
Trailer Bikes also give the child with cycling difficulties the chance to experience cycling in relative safety. The towing of a Trailer Bike also has health benefits for main rider and passenger alike!
