Update 4pm Friday

MTB info updated

Update 1pm Friday

PARKING – todays rain has cut our parking in half at the venue. This means we will have to use the overflow parking at Red Bull F1. If you arrive at the centre and see a marshal waving you away, please follow the PARKING signs to RB. Remember to take your helmet to registration as it’s a long way back if you forget. DIRECTIONS TO RB F1

Hi All

Running a bit late today – we’ve had to make some changes to the Sportive route due to a closed road so I’ve had to redo all the GPF/TCX/Garmin files! This is why we don’t publish them until after we have put the routes out :-)  I’m also changing the MTB route so this will now be put up tomorrow night when I’m sure it’s going to work – there is a bridleway closure but I’m 99% sure it won’t effect us.

So, here’s the details:-

Firstly, just a reminder that the Sunday Sportive is sold out – please do not come to the event hoping for cancelations, we won’t be accepting on the day entries.

PLEASE BRING YOUR HELMET TO REGISTRATION. You will not be able to register without it and you’ll have to go back to your car to retrieve it.

PARKING

There is parking on site but we are going to fill it up. When this happens we will have to go to our overflow parking at Red Bull F1, it’s a 2minute cycle away and I’ll be emailing all pre-entered riders a map. So if you see a marshal waving you away from the drive be prepared to carry on down the road. Please do not park on the road outside, it’s a busy one and we don’t want to cause a bottleneck, or in local residential roads.

Registration

This is in the hall, follow signs to registration.

MTB

It’s muddy out there! This will mean that it’s going to be a tough day and our routes are a little long as there is a fair amount of road. WIth this in mind I’m going to close the long route down at 1pm – if you are not there by then, you won’t make it back before the event centre closes. It’s also complicated around the woods – please make sure you READ the A4 yellow signs as you will come to some twice and they tell you which way to go. We have included some new singletrack – please be aware that it might be two way so please keep your speed controlable at all times.

Distances

Short 16miles

Medium 26 miles

Long 36 miles

It’s not a race!

Please give way to other trail users, walkers, horse riders etc. If you come across a Horse, please let the rider know you are there in plenty of time and follow their instructions. Remember, if you spook the horse it might hurt you or other people and you are responsible for you actions and the consequences!! Please also close all gates you might come across.

SPORTIVE

The roads are in winter conditions ( Mike got a puncture in the lane outside the event centre!!) so please make sure you can change at least two punctures. In the link to the GPX files on the pre-event email you should have all recieved by now, there is also a guide on how to use your maps to repair a ripped tyre. The actual road surfaces vary fron really good to a bit rough, but there is always the RISK OF POTHOLES! Please keep your eyes peeled and if you are in a group make sure you shout plenty of warning to those behind. The Long loop breaks off early so we will be sending off the course stripper at 10am.

Distances are approx.

Short -32miles  Elevation 1600ft

Medium -60miles Elavation 3450ft

Long -86miles Elevation 4600ft

Drink stations are approximately at:-

Short, – 26miles

Medium – 38miles Long first stint!

Long – 26 &63 miles Long middle stint

This is not a race!!

Please obey the highway code, stop at junctions and only ride two abreast where it is safe to do so – not on main roads or winding country lanes where cars travelling at speed will not be able to see you and stop!!!! If you cause and accident, you are responsible for the consequences and any costs.

Maps

I’ll post these up on Friday after we have put out the courses. These will be for info only and are not downloadable, you will get a hard copy at registration.

GPX files

Everyone who has pre-entered will receive a pre-event mail on Thursday afternoon around 6pm that has links to the GPX files and a guide to show you have to view them interactively. If you have not received this by 7pm tonight please check you junk folder, old accounts, your partners email if they booked and make sure you check the address you booked with! These are all common causes for not getting the mail. If you still don’t have them then email me on dean.stacey@evanscycles.com I’ll check your entry and send you a copy.

See you all there!

Dean

This will be the place to come for all the last minute info on this coming weekends Milton Keynes Ride It.

Firstly – The Sportive is sold out so please do not come along for an on the day entry as there are none available and will not be even if riders drop out.

GPX files will be sent to pre-entered riders on Thursday night via an email.

You can use these to view a map and there will be instructions on how to do this in the email.

Elevations and drink station distances will also be posted here once the courses are confirmed.

Thanks

Dean

i have a garmin 810, what is the best file to download for the route?

Reply
    Dean Stacey 12/04/2013

    Hi Chris.

For the road, download the ones in the file marked “Garmin 800/810 GPX”

For MTB, use the normal GPX

Is the route clockwise or anti-clockwise?

Reply
    Dean Stacey 12/04/2013

I’m going to need a bit more info than that!

    Sportive? MTB? route length?

If you follow the instructions on how to “view the routes interactively” and then the elevation instructions, you can see the direction of travel and where the hills are.

Sorry Dean!…Sportive, medium…I think from loading the gpx into BikeHike it’s anti clockwise…phew…didn’t fancy climbing Church Hill at the start ;-).
PS I cant get the gpx to load into Google’s “MyTracks” on Android, any idea’s?

Hi Shaun, would we do that to you!!

I’d google “MY tracks” to see if it takes GPX files.

Enjoyable route even though I dropped to the short from the medium on the day after waking up feeling seriously under the weather. I also had to dash home from the start to get my forgotten bottles and only made registration with 7 mins to spare, then forgot to go through the tent to start my chip! All in all not my best prepared!

Did I spy a photographer on route at one point? Will they go online here?

    Hi Russ.
You were spotted riding up the lane, followed by the question “Did he go through the start”? Guess we know now!

    Pics will be available soon.

Yet another great event.
Wind was gruesome and encouraged me to drop to Medium route, but a great course, well signed and efficiently run.
Cheers!

    Hi
We had a great time , thanks to everyone who worked so hard!
Can I ask a question about uploading the route to a Garmin Edge 200 because basically, I couldn’t!  Is there a trick to it?  I have read so much stuff about it in various forums but none of it seems to work for me!
    Thanks
