At the Races: Evans Cycles 4X riders in action at NPS
Ring leader of the Evans Cycles 4X team Ollie Jones gives us the low down on his latest race, stayed tuned because he has more updates coming in the busy few months of racing ahead. The South African is back from racing at the National 4X championship in South Africa and has recently moved from our busy Spitalfields branch to the newly opened Notting Hill store.
"Well this week end was really good for the Evans Cycles team with there being 4 members on the start line. The weather was great and it was a brand new track in Devon at the National Points Series - round 6 . On first inspection the track was not my favorite as it was pretty much one line with some very loose shale on the inside of the corners, we knew this was going to make things sketchy for the riders, but also fun for the spectators.
In the junior category we had Stefan Garliki a new member of Evans Cycles staff, putting in a great effort to end up 5th overall and winning the B final. We had Chris Von Allerman from the Fulham and Mathew Triquad from the Clapham store riding in the senior’s. Both Chris and Matt did well in their motos (heat rounds) but Chris was taken out in two of his rounds. Mathew however, on his first time racing 4x made it all the way to the finals were he ended up 2nd overall which was a good result for the team.
I had some pretty good motos getting a 2nd, a 3rd and a 4th. Which put me in a tie situation in 9th place. This resulted in having to run off against two other riders with the same points. Unfortunately I had a really bad start gate and went back to 3rd place out of the blocks, but I managed to take a sneaky inside line cutting across from the first corner down to the second which took me from 3rd to 2nd. I tried to go inside on the next corner but had to slow down a lot. I ended up 9th overall not so bad when it wasn't a course for me."
Ollie and Chris ride the Pinnacle Camino Frame built up with Shimano components.
