Evans Cycles staff 4X riders report from PORC

Team leader Ollie Jones of Evans Cycles Fenchurch Street  - reports on the latest 4X NPS round at Penshurst, Kent.

Our team of four rolled up in the Evans Cycles van ready to take on the field  - using our pro team styling to destract the opposition!  We arrived on Saturday for practice and the track was pretty much the same as I remembered it from previous races - a few changes made the track a few metres longer and featured a start ramp, plus there were a few new jumps amd corners.

The first main straight was super fast with 2 biggish triples followed by a 180 corner,  there were few more 180 corners further down which went into a small road gap, then a left hand corner small jump then a off camber right corner down to the finish. Whew!

The team's motos went really for Chris Van Allerman getting through to the B final in the senior's and coming 7th, a great result for him boosting him up the overall standings.

Stefan Garliki had some really hard motos and a crash (or three). After battling through he was unluckily taken out in the first corner of the B final but still managed to come in 7th, he was not very happy but he is still in a good position overall lying in 5th, only a hand full of points behind 3rd and 4th. The pressure is now on for Stefan, if he has some good runs at Chicksands he'll contend a top 3 place in the junior category for the season.

Matthew Triquard suffered this week at PORC wtih a crash, being taken out and the gate dropping meant he didn't get through to the final for the first time in his 4X race career. Next round he'll be on a rampage to put his performance right.

As for myself I was suffering from a injury earned during the week and was proudly black and blue all over my hip. Despite that  the motos went well and I made it into the B final. I had a good start and knew that we were all going to come together in the first corner, so I took a sneaky out side line but came unclipped and then battled to get clipped back in down the first straight.

The final result was 7th enough to garnish some points to help towards the overall standings.

If you are looking for a good day out riding Penshurst is great!  It has an awesome dirt jump section, 4X track, multiple down hill runs and a dam jump which is a lot of fun.

The next 4x race is at Chicksands in Bedford on the  12-13 of September. If you want to come and watch or ride there is plenty to see or do inclduing dirt jumps, a dual track, mini downhill and north shore - expect a great day out.  As for me, my next race will be in Austria at the 4X UCI World Cup - wish me luck!
