New Ride It! Winter and 2010 dates online

Cycling is addictive – the more you do it the better you get, and the more you want to do it again, but next time further and faster and longer.  It can be tricky though when you are just starting out to find somewhere new, challenging and fun to ride.

That’s where our year-round national series of Ride It! off-road and sportive road bike events comes in – you don’t need to be an expert rider to enjoy them to the full, and they’re only as competitive as you want them to be.

The mountain bike rides take place on Saturday, and the sportive road rides take place on Sunday.

The Ride It! team research riding areas, mark out four routes and provide riders with a Memory Map OS map to assist with navigation – all riders have to do is turn up and Ride It!

“This is the second year we’ve run the rides in the cooler months. We’re expecting a big take up of the winter events, most events go into hibernation over the winter. It’s a great way to keep active, fit and discover the great outdoors as the seasons change.” Says Event Manager Dean Stacey.

As well as offering pre-marked routes (from 12-30 miles for the MTB rides, and 15-90 miles for the road rides), every Ride It! includes:

Night rides

Bring your lights, or borrow a set of our high-powered Exposure off-road lights (just check out the demo lights at the bottom of each event page) and experience the exhilaration of mountain biking at night at Reading (Nov 14th), Dorking (Dec 5th), Chieveley (Jan 9th).

“We’re all keen night riders” says Dean “and we wanted to share this experience with others, so last year we put on a few off-road night rides taking place after our main events.  It was great to be able to get people out riding at night that have never done it before – it’s a real buzz”.

King of the Downs - 23rd May 2010

Looking for an extra challenge?  Then check out the King of the Downs super-sportive, taking place on May 23rd 2010!

Harder, longer and hillier than the usual Ride It! sportives, the King of The Downs super sportive will test your road cycling strength and endurance to the max.

Taking place on Sunday the 23rd of May, the ride takes in over 10 killer climbs in the South East’s iconic road cycling areas totalling over 9,000 ft!: The North Downs, the Surrey Hills, Ashdown Forest and the hills scattered through East Surrey & Kent.

And for those looking for a shorter (but just as tough) challenge there's the 56 mile half sportive option.  Visit the King of the Downs event page for more info and to enter online - but be quick entry is limited to 1,000 riders!.

TCR Show Ride It - 13th &14th Feb 2010

The Triathlon, Cycling and Running Show takes place at Sandown Park on the 13-14 February and once again will be packed with the greatest products, services, seminars and features for the triathletes, cyclists and runners.

For this event we use the show as our base for an amazing ride on the outskirts of South West London, encroaching onto the North Downs.  We've teamed up with the show organisors to offer a special price on combined Ride It! and show entries - only £12.50 for both! (only available from Evans Cycles)  So you can come for the ride, but stay for the show.
