A rechargeable light should be in any serious night rider, or regular cycle commuter's kit list. Having a strong light ensures your safety from anything that is thrown in your path. Rechargeable lights are typically used for off road mountain biking but are becoming more and more at home on both road and commuter bikes.
Based at Gatwick, we're a stones throw from the Surrey Hills, an area that is great for night riding, so it's not uncommon for us to be out there riding our bikes on a cold winter's evening. On one of our more recent staff night rides we took pretty much the entire rechargable bike light range we stock with us, along with tripod and camera and took some photos to show you exactly what these lights can do! Glossary
A few of the terms throughout this article need some explaining - Read on for more info or check out our lighting buyers guide:
Lumen - A lumen is a unit of measurement for how bright something is. Trust us, its quite confusing, but essentially it is how much light is contained in a certain area. Obviously, the higher the amount of lumens, the brighter the light.
A standard 60 watt household light emits approx 800 lumens.
Candle Power - Another unit of measurement for brightness. This time it is in relation to how much light one candle gives off.
Battery Life - How long the batteries in the light last for at a low and high setting
