Accelerade Advance Sports Drink

Accelerade Advance Sports Drink when introduced in 2003, Accelerade, with its patented 4:1 ratio of carb to protein, represented a dramatic departure from conventional carb-only sports drinks. Accelerade also demolished the conventional dogma regarding the importance of protein to help fuel muscle cells and improve rehydration, the two essential criteria for a sports drink. Study after study has confirmed the superiority of protein-powered Accelerade in terms of increase endurance, reduction in muscle damage and more effective hydration. To date there have been over 15 peer-reviewed studies on the benefits of the 4:1 ratio.

One of the remarkable findings in these studies is that athletes consuming Accelerade has a lower level of perceived exertion. Perceived exertion is a measurement of how hard it seems to exercise at the pace you want to go. Perceived exertion is always highest right before you bonk. Accelerade has been shown to not only lower the level of perceived exertion, but this was associated with a lower heart rate. This means that your heart is not working as hard with the same level of exertion. New findings explain why. The latest research on fatigue indicates that during intense exercise the level of branched-chain amino acids in the blood falls. This drop in BCAA’s sets off a cascade effect in the brain causing the release of a “fatigue” signal. Accelerade, because it is enriched with BCAA maintains BCAA levels thereby minimizing the build up and release of the fatigue signal. The result – Accelerade enables you to train harder and suffer less.

Great flavour and keeps you going I bought this after reading the technical blurb about it having the 'correct' ratio of protein to carbohydrate. This seems unique to this drink, but it seems to make sense. I have tried this a few times and have enjoyed the flavour - mountain berry - not too cloying as some of these drinks can be. Whilst I cannot rate the efficacy by any technical means, it does seem to do what they say - I seemed to have more energy and a quicker recovery. My only criticism is that the measures are for 12 ounces - my water bottle holds 20 ounces (1 pint) and so is not up-scale-able. A 10 ounce measure would be more useful for either a half or whole bottleful. It also leaves little undissolved bits stuck to the inside of the bottle. May 16, 2012

tastes great!! I have tried the lemonade and mountain berry flavours and would recommend both. The taste is not overly strong or sweet like some other brands although they do have quite a vivid colour when mixed. I have used this product to get me through endurance mtb races and have had no ill effects or stomach problems. April 27, 2012

Have had a period not using Accelerade, and suffered from cramps post exercise, which have stopped since I started using it again!! The 60 serving size works out a lot cheaper buy in the long run. March 24, 2012

Not Bad At All Works as well as any other energy drink I've tried in terms of performance. Used a different flavour (not produced any more) for half a year. Opted for Lemonade this time, tastes lemony. Colour can only be described as luminous! February 15, 2012
