BMC Roadracer SL01 Ultegra Compact 2012 review My budget was £1800 to £2500 and I test rode a number of bike. BMC for some reason was never top of my list. I tried a lightspeed and a trek Modone neither of which I liked, maybe the riding position was a bit to upright for my taste and I actually preferred my previous bike, a giant TCR Evans had a BMC roadracer 105 version in my size (57) in the store so I gave it a test ride. Massive difference to the two other bikes: immediately noticed the difference in apparent power transfer - more than just my imagination, I'm sure. It's not as comfortable as the trek but felt so much faster. It's also light ~7.5kg for the ultegra. looks-wise I wasn't drawn to it initially but like it more and more now and does actually resemble some of the higher end BMCs like the team machine (which to me does look very nice and different) The internal cabling is a nice clean touch and the frame has an industrial look. the gears (ultegra) change really well (noticeably better than my TCR's 105's for some reason). I did consider Di2 but IMO you're paying a premium right now for that technology. The wheels seem very good and may well contribute to the apparently better acceleration than experienced on the trek and lightspeed. they're dt-swiss 1650 - couldn't find reviews on these but seem light (guessing 1650g) and stiff and are still true after a couple of hundred bumpy miles. I don't like the anatomic angle in the drops but they're OK (prefer my old FSA vero bars) but this is very cheap to replace if necessary (the stock bars are ~£20) All in all very satisfied and would by BMC again October 1, 2012

drop dead georgeous and as light as a feather I went to Evans determined that the Evaporite 3 at the great Evans Price was at the very top of my price range. Then I saw the 2011 Model of the BMC at a really unbelievable price, unfortuantely i missed out on that deal but even though it was well above my price limit, I saw the head turningly georgeous 2012 model. I expected a great service from The Evans staff at St Pauls staff where i got my previous bikes and was not disapointed. they arranged a test ride between the Evaporite and the BMC shipping the BMC in from another branch. The Evaporite was a great bike but just a little less eager, the BMC seemed to really want to sprint! Given the price difference was it enough of a differnce? After all this ws my first "racer" in 40 years and more expensive that my first 3 cars! My head said no but each time i looked at the BMC my heart said yes yes yes, now i ve just got to tell the wife! December 11, 2012

Top class bike This is the first time i have rode a bike like this, it is worth every penny and so easy to get use to, the bike just flies along,a experience not to be mist,brought it from Evans cycles in Hendon and the help i got was first class, thanks for a new experience August 31, 2012
