Bontrager RL Thermal Softshell Jacket

With its windproof and water-resistant panelling, the Bontrager RL Thermal Softshell Jacket combines the weather protection of a hardshell with the soft, quiet, and comfortable feel of fleece. Cycling specific construction utilizes a three-layer, laminated fabric for the front body, shoulders, and arms, while a stretch-woven fleece panel across the back provides thermal regulation. A generous, elasticized centre back pocket provides quick and easy storage, a zippered side pocket securely holds valuables, a side pass-thru pocket gives access to jersey pockets, and the front chest pocket is perfectly sized for a mobile phone. Adjustable Velcro wrist closures and a high-back collar further help to seal out the elements.

Great fit, great features A really nice race fit, handy pockets, and good materials. April 6, 2013

Excellent jacket, well made and warm! Great jacket for riding in cold temperatures. I've used it at 2-3 degrees in a keen wind with just a thin base layer below and it works really well. Good tight fit with adjustable cuffs and plenty of storage pockets. March 31, 2013

Not gold, still great Picture is misleading, as this jacket is pale orange with dark brown front and black back. Snug fit, (5' 6", size 10/12 - changed the S for a M) and incredibly warm and light. Bought in the sale so out of my league at full price. March 31, 2013

Well made with good design features, snug fit Never really considered Bontrager kit and components in the past, but was looking for something in a bright colour, that wasn’t Hi-Viz yellow or day glow green. I have to say I’m impressed. The orange colour is bright, but from the rear only the arms are visible as orange as the back panel is black. The other colour used is a very dark brown which works well with the orange. It has some well considered features, including two zip pockets (a smaller one on the breast which I don’t really use, and a larger rear one at the side). There is also a net-like rear central stuff-pocket. It is also possible to access jersey pockets through an additional side zip. I’ve worn it with a merino base layer and bib ¾ tights and it keeps me warm when the temperature is hovering above zero C. To keep out the wind chill or for sub-zero temperatures I combine it with a gilet. It’ll keep out the odd shower, but probably no more than that. Fit is snug, relaxed roadie style IMO and I find it comfortable even through I’m not particularly slim. Racing snakes might find it a bit baggy at the front. I’m 5.10 and 12-ish stone (39” chest) and I’m happy with the road inspired fit. March 6, 2013
