Yes, I recommend this product.

Pros: Good quality, Lightweight, smooth gears

Cons: saddle is very hard

I have had this bike a few weeks now and although not started commuting in earnest I have put a couple of hundred Kms on it.

Whats Good? Alfine hub is excellent, smooth, quiet and keeps free of muck and dust. Good spread of gears, won't suit toiling up the alps but fine for most moderate climbs. equally it might top out a little too soon for some but you can comfortably scoot along at easily over 30Kmh with cadence that isn't too high.
Fork is superb for ironing out the small bumps and is super rigid, no flex at all. It locks out completely if you want.
Brakes, truly first rate stopping power, Juicy 5 on a hybrid! You really don't need them to be this good.
Tyres - great grip on road when conering and rugged enough when on dirt / gravel tracks, no punctures yet.
I have bought this bike for my commute when moving to Belgium and so far it fits the bill perfectly. It is a robust yet smooth bike you can just jump on and go.

Whats not good.
Saddle - It is very very unforgiving although has a neat little space for ics lights to slot into (evans could not source for me but we came to an agreeable solution).
Can't find a front mudguard for the lefty fork, had to use crud catcher.
Alfine hub doesn't look easy to take off when puncture needs to be repaired.
Overall - I would like to rate it 4 1/2 stars but the facility to do so is not there. I really enjoy riding it, to the extent that I have been taking it out for rides in place of my road bike. A really excellent urban / commuter bike that I would recommend. (I would have preferred black but the offer was only on the white in my size, it looks good but I feel a little self conscious as it is a bit 'bling' for me).

26" not 28" wheels

I've always been a fan of the Cannondale Bad boy ever since the mid 90's or so when it was introduced - so when my work (finally) got around to sorting out the 'ride to work' scheme i new it would be high on my list of bikes. I wanted a bike with an Alfine 8 internal hub gears and ideally disk brakes with 700c wheels. It just so happened that Evans were doing the Bad Boy Ultra (white edition) for £999.99 just falling into the £1000 limit, its was reduced from the rrp of £1400. So this seemed to fit the bill.

1st off, the bike is very eye catching, with the solo fork etc, it got lots of staring and pointing looks when on the roof of my car stuck in traffic after picking it up from the shop.

The frame is typical cannondale, big profile Aluminium tubes and great construction quality - even after moving production to Taiwan - The welds are no longer smoothed after welding, which is a shame in my opion, however all of the welds are neat so its not that bad. The bike has an eccentric bottombracket and the downtube / seattube junction is sufficiently beefy to keep it all nice and stiff down there. The toptube is slightly triangulated and flared at the headtube end to keep maximum contact with the oversize headtube. There's one frame niggle, but i was aware of this prior to buying, there are no rack mounts just a set for a rear mudguard, I'm not to fussed as I'm used to using a courier bag or rucksack anyway. I had heard that the eccentric bottombracket had to be repeatedly tightened and adjusted on the early badboys, this seems to have been sorted with the addition of a little split ring to hold the allenkey bolt in place - its worth to note that this has very small holes for a pair of split ring pliers, my set don't fit and I'll have to file my spare set down the the future to do any chain tension adjustment. The paint finish is good and the Cannondale logo on the downtube is in relief under the paint, on other black bad boys this logo it reflective, however a the bike is so white its not here. Being 5'10" i bought a medium, the toptube is just long enough providing a nicely stretched position, but if your 5'11" or taller get the large.

On to the fork... I've ridden cannondale headshock forks before and was always impressed and the solo is no different. Stiffness is not an issue, they have been producing the lefty for years and the axle arrangement has been finely tuned. The bike comes with Cannondales own front hub to match the fork which itself retails for £89.99. The lock out is the most effective I've ever used - it really does lock the fork solid - great for the long slog uphill. The 80mm travel is more that adequate for road use, its smooth and quite progressive. Again Cannondale have been refining their Headshock system since the early 90's on their mountain bikes, so reliability on the road really shouldn't be an issue. A mate at work commented that the single sided for would be really offputting, however as soon as your on the bike you don't notice it.

Right, components.... This is where it gets interesting, first off is my main bugbare with the bike, Its listed as coming with 28" wheels and it actually has 26"! I had read a review of the same thing happening with one of the other Badboy models, but just thought it was a one off factory mix up. I've yet to approach Cannondale or Evans over this , and will update when i do.
The first thing i did when i got the bike home is to remove the chain guard, this has a plastic main guard which is held on via a metal back mounting plate and removable metal bottom bracket plate. As its not frame mounted and its mounted via the truvative gxp bottom bracket, if you want to remove this and don't have the tools your best getting a shop to do it for you.
All of the Cannondale branded parts are of a high quality for OEM parts, the seatpost is especially nice, it has about 20mm of layback and a little thumb wheel for angle adjustment, measurements are clearly marked on the back from height. The bars are a little narrow to what I'm used to on my xc mountain bike, but great for nipping in and out of traffic.
Wheels and gears- The spread of gears with the 42 ring up front and only the 8 in the Alfine hub at the back is much better than i was expecting. 1st gear sets a great pace for those ' i just can be bothered with this hill' kinda moments, and 8th gear takes you into the realms of 25mph plus. Ample for the hills of Bristol, although i still dread the thought of tackling Park Street. There is a slight binding of gears when changing, more noticeable between 1st and 4th gears if trying to sweep through them as you would a standard cassette. I've read that this gets smoother though with use and the average bedding in period is 1000-2000km, so that will take me about 6months. The only niggles are that the cable end seems easy to shear if caught in the gears, which happened to me on the first ride and that the shifter is in reverse to what I'm used to. As mentioned early the front hub is a Cannondale unit that is specifically designed to work with their lefty/solo single sided forks, and has a high rrp so its a quality unit. Both wheel are laced with black spokes on to 26" rims which are cannondale branded, but made by DT Swiss, again quality units however they are pined and not welded. Tyres are 26" Schwalbe units which are quite fat for road units and provide loads of grip.

As for the other parts, the Avid juicy 5's work as well as you would expect, i used to have a set of juicy 7's on my mountain bike and there is no performance difference here, they just need a few miles of bedding in and there great. The chain set is Truvative Fire x unit with gxp bottom bracket, again quite a solid and dependable unit for the road. The grips are Cannondale lock on units which use bartape as the grip section, not sure how long they will last, but they provide ample grip and comfort. The saddle is a Fizik Pave which i had high hopes for as my Fizik Gobi on my xc bike is great, sadly the pave is not for me, its too wide and flat at the rear and seems to be more of a compromise between a ladies and men's saddle. Its not for me and will get changed eventually (although that does not mean your rear will not like it). The saddle also comes with the Fizik light (rrp of about £9) which is a great touch. I've used this light when using my mountain bike to commute and its a great little fit and forget about unit with flashing or constant modes. I've already changed the pedals as tbh the stock Cannondale Octopus ones aren't that great, relying on a type of skate board grip tape for grip they just don't cut the mustard. I've always used clipped in spd style pedals and i already had a set of Crank Brothers Candy c's lying around so i slapped them on instead.

The bit that really matters, the ride. The first thing that comes to mind is fast, having used my mountain bike to commute for that last year this thing is much quicker. It may just be the low rolling resistance of the tyres buts its great. The stiffness of the frame aids every pedal stroke at junctions and the ease of swapping through the gears at a stand still is a big plus. It just the sort of ride i was looking for, being a mountain biker for 18 years or so i didn't want a low stretched racer or typical sit up and beg hybrid, the badboy is for those that want a fast mtb style commute. It just feels familiar when you sit aboard and set off. I originally was looking for a rigid hybrid as i felt that a suspension fork was a bit ott for cycle paths and roads, but the quality Cannondale unit really does provide a great ride and saves those wrists from that achy feeling after a ride.

Over all i'm very happy - just need to contact Cannondale/Evans about the wheel sizes! Oh and for those that are wondering the weight (with the guard removed and crank brothers pedals) its 26.38lbs so not that bad concidering the rear wheel weighs more than 2kg on its own.

so, to the bad boy. well i bought this for commuting to work. so far i have done 500kms in three weeks. so it is fair to give my insights on the bike. i weigh 85 kg and am 180cm tall and bought the large frame.
firstly it is a beautiful thing to look at. i love the asymmetric front fork - just the sheer madness of the engineers doing something because they can. i don't know if it improves handling, saves weight or anything else but looking down to see half of your bike missing when out of the saddle powering away is really cool.

the reason i got this bike is for low fuss commuting. i wanted an alfine hub, good disc brakes, to ride all through winter in wet cold conditions and to not worry about the equipment failing or needing maintenance.

to the standard bike, i added a topeak pannier, knog white cycle computer, knog boomer lights, a fibreflair rear light, and shimano white spd 520 pedals.

likes/loves
this thing rides well. i mean really well. it just feels so balanced. i love getting out of the saddle, going around corners. it feels like an extension of your body. it re-ignites passion for riding.

the shock absorber really works well for road use. one shock seems to have less stiction than two, so it absorbs small bumps really well. descending i feel more in control. you can really see the front wheel working over the bumps. it doesn't absorb motion when riding up hills until you get out of the saddle and it is adjustable, but it worked so well out of the box, i didn't add any air to it.. the lock out is great. it really works. like all your weight on the front and no movement with the lock out engaged. it simply feels like a fixed fork. and with the lock out on the top of the fork it is easy to turn off/on while riding.

the alfine hub. i read a blog of a guy in Victoria who rode 13000kms in one year he wrote - "the alfine hub. this is one of those things that just works." i have certainly ridden it hard. you change up while applying full power and it just works. it rarely complains, it just changes and keeps on going. 8 speeds is fine for my commuting in hilly hobart. top speed is around 60 km/hr at 120rpm , low speed is 7.5 km/hr at 48 rpm, using 26" 1.3" tyres.

the saddle has a nice red LED flasher in the rear for added visibility

the brakes. juicy 5's on a road bike? sheer madness, but oh so good, and best used with some caution. (it is pretty easy to get the back wheel off the ground when stopping)

the looks. oh, yes. it looks fine. the white paint is metallic and slightly pearlescent. so it gives the impression of being whiter than white. white rims, white chain guard, custom white juicy 5 brakes. shiny.

cons
the bike was advertised with 700c wheels, but came with 26" wheels.
the saddle is as hard as a rock.
the eccentric bottom bracket is used for chain adjustment. and mine is seized, so the chain needs adjusting.
the handlebar grip tape has almost given way (500kms)
the chain guard seems to have a mind of its own, turning around to make noises.
the seat tube was not lubricated in the frame, and it had developed a nasty squeak (now resolved)
both inner tubes i got with the bike had tiny holes in them and did not work with glue-less patches. so i spend ages trying to mend the tubes until i got a cheap kmart glue-type repair kit. taking off the back wheel to mend a puncture is not that much fun.
i am not sure how to get front mud guards attached.

yes. the quality in design and manufacture, coupled with good component use make me feel happy in the knowledge that this will be a good purchase. niggles with bottom brackets aside i think this bike will be a favourite for years to come.
