For 2009 the Compulsion is lighter, stronger and stiffer. They reduced the weight of every model by nearly 2 pounds. They increased the bikes strength by replacing the forgings, links and bolts with new wider mounts, which also resulted in an increase in stiffness to help the bike track more positively over any terrain. New hydroform tubes also make the front triangle stiffer and stronger. Cartridge bearings keep suspension travel smooth and play-free. They have changed the pivot axles to a new custom thru-shaft for improved durability and strength.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Pros: Good value, Good quality, Comfortable

Cons: Heavy, paintwork scratches very easily

This bike performs really well on downhill sections. The rear suspension is very smooth and makes the bike really smooth to ride. There is a very large range of adjustment available on the suspension setup so the bike can be set up for a wide range of conditions.

For steep hill climbs it is necessary to drop the front forks and lock them out and use the Pro Pedal setting on the rear. The bike then climbs like a hardtail but is a little on the heavy side for long steep climbs. However, if you don't lower the front forks the balance is too much to the rear and the handling is poor due to the high front. These characteristics mean the bike is not so good on trails which have a lot of short up and down hills as it is not practical to stop and change the fork height frequently.

I also own a Cannondale Prophet with a Lefty fork and this is much better suited for tight wooded trails with lots of up and downs. The Felt performs better that the Cannondale on the downhill sections though.

The only negative is that the paintwork is very soft and scratches extremely easily.

All in all this is a very nice bike for big open mountain trails for all day riding. The suspension makes the bike very comfortable to ride all day. However for riding in tight wooded trails with steep climbs then
I find the Cannondale is much better suited for that.

Yes, I recommend this product.

The Felt is a excelent and sturdy bike, having only ridden hardtails all my life it felt very nice to have some comfort on the downhill and the lock -off makes it very easy too go uphill. The reason I have only rated it as 4* rather than 5* is because after two weeks of riding the brake cables was filled with mud and therefore I couldnt use the brakes and I had to get them cleaned out. But other all this is a reccomended bike that will last for a while.

had my felt comp 2 for over a year now i have been on everything the dales and yorkshire moors can throw at it and love the the bike it excels on rough down hill,, is a tad heavy on the up hills the bottom bracket is rubbish gone through 1 already having said that it only cost £20 to put another one in and some of the nuts and allan studs have gone rusty but other than these gripes i think you will struggle to buy a bike as good as this for the same money

The good, the bad and the un-helpful

No, I do not recommend this product.

Pros: Comfortable, Looks great

Cons: Poor quality, poor customer service, let down by some poor components

bought the bike in august 09, saved £500.
It's nice to ride, feels nice and floaty over rocky stuff, good ballance between pedaling efficiency on the uphills and bump absorbtion on the down.
Not overly convinced with how tough it is though, as i'm having to replace parts every few rides. When you look at the spec in detail, you will notice some slightly cheap components. like the shimano rear hub, deore front mech and cheap finishing kit (stem, seatpost, saddle etc).
I have had several components go already, including a frame snap, suspension bolts sheering, 2 rear hub replacements, bent seat post (like a bannana) and bottom bracket on its way out.
Evans offer minimal support and stick to the bare bones of their legal requirements in terms of warranty, no labour charges for the minimal work they have done though.
I've started to spend that £500 i saved! bought a mavic rim built onto a hope hub and a thompson layback seatpost. put an SDG belair saddle on at purchase too. now looking into changing the bottom bracket to something that will withstand a brittish winter, this may mean a change of chainset as the truvative cranks aren't compatible with many bottom brackets.

Each upgrade makes it feel a little stronger and even nicer to ride. despite the gripes, still love riding it, just not too keen on the maintenance schedule!
