Great for training tool off the bike

Yes, I recommend this product.

Pros: Good quality, Looks great

Cons: Heavy, Expensive

The 205 is a great GPS unit . It wont have the same lovely voice as Tom Tom , but it will beep at u and piont . Compatible with Memory map and or like products to help with route planning . I feel the best functions with this is the comparisons you can do off the bike . U cna break your riding down into sections and then focus your training accordingly . plus if you get really lost it will give you the bearing back to your front door , very handy when findin new trails.

Pros: Good value, Good quality, easy to use

I am not a whizz with things likethis but found this easy to use and would highly reccomend it. Not to much detail but I do not prefer the minimum for ease.

Good entry level GPS device

Pros: Lightweight, Looks great

Cons: complicated to programme

I've had the Edge for around three months. I'm new(ish) to road cycling starting in Aug 2009. I purchased this as an entry level unit to track ride profiles as I already have a trip computer to monitor cadence, heart and speed. After a few months of using it, the things I've found most useful are: -

1) Seeing ride profiles (post ride) to see climbs and descents relative to speed/effort (this is the most regular feature I've used).
2) Loading rides into the Garmin that other people have done.
3) Having a permanent record of my rides sorted by calender in the software so that I can recall them and do them again.

The software interface that the Garmin comes with looks a little out of date now and could do with updating. The google earth interface is a nice touch however.

Operation of the Garmin can be a little fiddly and takes some getting used to, however when you've got your head round it, it makes more sense.

Overall, having gone for this and used it for a few months, my next step is to probably upgrade to a 705 with heart monitor and have all my ride computing done by one device, simply because I'm becoming a more experienced ride and want more combined stats.

The 205 isn't bad as a first device, however I think you'll upgrade later if you stick with cycling.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Pros: Lightweight, Good quality, easy to use, sufficient features

A more economical option than the Garmin Edge 705, 605, 500 and 305 models, but with lots of very useful features. The best feature of the Garmin Edge models is the ability to load a route onto it and then follow it whilst riding, negating the need for stopping to read maps at every junction. OS map software can be uploaded to provide data or routes can be downloaded from the internet or entered manually.

The Edge 205 tracks speed, distance, calories burned (estimated), average and max speeds and GPS-based altitude. It also provides a 'Virtual Partner' to train with/race, and allows you to enter simple and advanced workouts or courses.

The 205 does not have the heart rate monitor or cadence options that the more expenisive models boast. Nor the barometric altitude and vertical profile.

The 205 is logical to use and displays sufficient data for post workout analysis. The screen is of a good size and the figures on-screen are easily readable.

All in all a good buy!
