Value for money but opportunity lost Bought this bike for long distance commuting(40 miles a day) so I needed comfort and durability in equal measure. The spec list seems very good and the colour makes a nice change from other bikes. I wasn't very happy about the assembly of the bike, being a steel frame the lack of any grease on the threads of any bolts could spell trouble on a bike designed for all year use. Also the cabling was poor with lengths cut far too long. The saddle is a bad choice for a tourer, my TT bike has a more comfortable ride! I know on a bike of this sort weight isn't so much of an issue but it seems very heavy. That's the grips finished with. What's good? Well the gearset is fabulous for a bike at this price, Gear changes are precise and crisp and the big range cassette can handle any hill I have to go up. The disc brakes give good predictable retardation regardless of the weather but be careful with adjustment, they can rattle badly if not set up right. I really like the ride quality, something only a steel frame can give. It's never going to be a sports bike but a high cruising speed can be maintained once you get going. The tyres probably limit the bikes ability but they do the job well and are durable but I will swap for Gatorskins once worn out. I like the retro colour scheme and don't mind the mudguards(they need proper flaps if this is a proper tourer) but be careful where you lean it up as the paint is thin and not that durable. All in all it is a good bike for the money but for no extra cost it could have been a great bike. I'm happy with mine and with some tweeks and modifications I can overcome my grips. October 8, 2012

Brilliant ride smart looking bike with few niggles I bought this bike from Evans through my bike to work scheme, and in the 3 months I have owned it, I think it is excellent, with three niggles. Being a touring bike the frame is larger than the same size for a road bike, so try one for size before buying. Friends who have viewed the bike think it looks pretty smart, and it has some very nice finishing touches. The black and off-white colour work very well, and the red plastic bar end plugs match the red anodized headset top cap. The mudguards match the frame colour I prefer the full proper Tiagra STI levers, much better than the Sora levers. So the the lack of a pannier rack is not a problem, this can easily be retro fitted, despite the face that Evans did not allow me to purchase one as part of their Ride2Work (which is strange, surely I should be able to buy a rack Evans?) The wheels roll very well, but are sluggish in accelerating. Remember this is a touring bike, not a full on road bike, so that is more than acceptable. In fact I can roll up to traffic lights up hill. Very comfortable over long distances and short commute to work, once I replaced the saddle, the rides having occurred on some of Scotlands finest potholed, poorly repaired roads. The only niggles I have is that the saddle was too narrow for touring. The rear metal mudguard split (but in the three months I have had the bike I have done over 1200 miles on it) while riding down a bumpy road. The tyres don't grip well on wet roads. However I am really pleased with the bike. Perhaps Jamis should fit the SKS longboard mudguards, which are identical in colour to the rest of the bike. But I have no problem giving this bike 5 stars. nice multi- purpouse bike I wanted a multi- purpoused bike. This one fits the bill. I'm using it as a winter training bike, commuting and touring bike, and performs well in all aspects. My unique complains are the stock tyres. I've not wore them in wet, but in dry weather their adherence was poor. I've changed them to continental's slicks and maneouvrability has clearly improved. My other complein is the 32-hole back wheel. It rolls well, but for loaded touring, I prefer 36- hole wheels. In summary, this bike is awesome, and with some minor improvements, a perfect do-it-all bike. March 20, 2013

perfect for winter commute or light touring. Bought the bike through the Cycle to work scheme as I didn't want to use my road bike through the winter. Also I do weekend riding with friends who like to venture off road a bit on rough tracks. I agree with previous comments about the saddle although for commuting it was fine, wouldn't have wanted to spend the day on it. but saddles are very personal things anyway. I have swapped it now and it's a great improvement. The second negative thing for me are the tyres, I see a previous reviewer said they are slippy in the wet, I found them dreadful even in the dry. They gave me no confidence at all. if I wasn't used to cycling they could have put me off completely. I've swapped them for 700 x 32 Kendra Small Block Eights and the difference is incredible, the bike seems to roll better and doesn't display any of the jitteriness it did with the vittoria tyres. The bike is (now) perfect for commuting through the winter and easily copes with the rough tracks and forests my friends love so much. The bike seems well put together and the gears work perfectly. I even like the colour seems quite stylish to me! Overall I'm very pleased with the bike it's not the lightest but it's not meant to be and rolls along very nicely. February 1, 2013
