Earlier this year I was looking to upgrade from my Scott hybrid as I was spending 99% of my cycling on road and also needed something a little faster. I paid Evans Gateshead a visit (so helpful) and explained that I was after a road bike for fitness and commuting but really didn't fancy one of the overly flash road bikes knocking around at the moment. Evans showed me the Honky and it was love at first sight - retro looks, steel frame and understated.

After a quick test and reading a number of reviews it was definitely the bike for me. The smoothness of the ride was the first thing I noticed - it really does eat up the bumps on the UK roads mainly due to the steel frame - and is hugely comfortable for the longer rides. It also accelerates extremely well, the gear change is slick when set up properly and the brakes are spot on (after bedding in). Its low gearing on the smaller chainring also allows steady climbs on the steepest hills...

Its certainly no race machine but if you're after something a little different for a swift trip to work or long countryside jaunt I can't recommend it enough.

Yes, I was debating spending £500 or so on this or lashing out and buying a full carbon frame. I am so glad I bought this one.
positives- comfortable ride9 essencial for me as i have P.N.E and can only stand up to pedal)
Average components, I don't think this bike was worth the £700 plus price tag originally on it. the design is distinctive and retro. it feels solid to ride and will be worth uprading - especially the wheels later on.
Negatives- the seat post could not be adjusted tilting forward and back, this caused me a problem as i have an unusual seat position. i had to change the post and seat. Also the handlebars are fatter profile in the middle which meant I could not but an adjustable stem to fit, so i have to make do with this one.
All in all I think this bike is really nice and i enjoy getting on it for a ride. The comfort of the ride is it's best feature.

This is the second time I've purchased a Kona cycle and I find I'm becoming an enthusiast! The Kona Honky Tonk is a mid range cycle which has the appearance of an old style road racing bike. It's light and functional and very sturdy. No complaints...enjoy!!!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Pros: Comfortable

Cons: Heavy

Bought this to replace a Spec Allez which after two years of commuting was beginning to become uneconomic to keep on the road. Was looking for something sturdy but still with some speed. This is a very comfortable bike to ride and once it gets going is just fast as the Allez if not faster. I have fitted mudguards to which went on fairly easily. I think that for the money there is no better bike suited to my requirements which is simply 100 miles a week commuting. Pros: Comfortable, sturdy (hopefully), practical and fast (top end) Cons: a bit heavy which makes acceleration slightly sluggish, toe overlap is a concern and brakes arent the most responsive. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and I hope that it lasts a few years longer than my last bike.
