Bought a cross bike to do a bit of cyclo cross! and also as an alternative to my MTB as a lot of the rides that I do are 50/50 road/off road. Just christened the bike on holiday in Lanzarote and very pleased with its speed and performance on the tarmac and also the way it coped with quite rough off road stuff on the Islands volcanic ash.

This was bought as replacement for a stolen cyclocross bike used for commuting. I had not heard of the brand Pinnacle before so was a little apprehensive about buying one. I was impressed when it arrived and it does look much better in the flesh than it does in the pictures.

I have had this bike for about 8 months so hopefully it quailfies me to make a none biased review. First I'll get the worst thing about this bike out of the way - It weighs a bloody ton!, well not quite but it isn't light either, I personally would not want to do a serious cyclocross race in this.

With that out of the way there is very little else go gripe about this bike and seeing as it's now just over £500 to buy it really is excellent value for money. Components are quality from the saddle, shifters, handlebars, brakes, crank, and deraileurs.

The riding position is aggressive but comfortable and is briliant in traffic. Put some full length mudguards on this like I have done and it is the perfect affordable, and very importantly reliable commuter.

What I really love about this bike is the Jagwire deraileur adjusters meaning you can adjust the front and rear deraileurs in the saddle while on the move. The SRAM cassette gives you a very low gear ratio - perfect for when you've had a hard day at work and just want to get home with minimum effort, but also has a high enough gear to ensure you can keep up with traffic without any problems.

In conclusion, for the money, this is probably the best commuter bike out there, even if for cyclocross it is way too heavy.

I bought this bike from the Deansgate Manchester branch last weekend and I am more than delighted with it. I have come back to cycling after a layoff of fifteen years and initially rode a bog standard hybrid bike for a few weeks. After deciding that re-starting cycling was a good idea - and after deciding what style of bike would be best suited to my needs - I drew up a shortlist of bikes to look at, one of which was the expede.

I arrived at the shop at around 2.45pm to find that the expede 1.1 was present in my size but not the 0.0. After a quick check on the computer, the helpful assistant informed me that there was a bike in stock and that if I could return in about 1hr it would be built for me to test ride - which I did,and bought the bike.

The next day, I went on a favourite circuit (which already has several hills, one about 2 miles long) and found myself feeling so good that I took on yet another 'extra' hill just for the heck of it !

The bike has performed so well - in just a few short days - that I can't wait to get up and get riding again. Great stuff - well done Evans!

Good but not right for me

I've only ever owned mountain bikes, so this was my first experience of a bike with this type of geometry etc. I basically wanted a bike I could use mainly for commuting, but could also take off-road and give a little abuse (curb hopping and so on). I was unsure if this bike was right for me, so only when I discovered the 30 day test ride did decide to give it a go.

When it first arrived I thought it was light, well built, and looked smart. Taking it for a ride I was amazed how fast and responsive it was, but the very aggressive posture was new to me and felt awkward and uncomfortable. Taking it for a longer ride the following day I decided to return it: I felt the position it put me in was too serious and took much of the fun out of cycling, as well as making me feel very unstable amongst traffic etc. I also took it down a steep muddy track with steps (probably not suitable for this type of bike I know but I wanted a bike which could manage it) and almost went head over heals due to leaning so far forwards for the brakes.

Now I must be clear that the problems I encountered were probably no faults of the bike - it is a good if not very good cyclo-cross bike - it just wasn't the right bike for me (though perhaps I should have given it more time to get used to it). If you are like me and considering 'crossing-over' into road/cyclo-cross bikes just take this review as a warning - they can be very different from mountain bikes. I exchanged this bike for a Cannondale Bad Boy Disc 2010 which I am very happy with (for me it is a better compromise between speed, comfort and ruggedness).

(N.B. I didn't give this bike 5 stars purely because I only had it for a short time and have no experience of other road/cyclo-cross bikes to compare it with)
