I wanted to get back into cycling, last bike was a GT Karakoram, about 19 years ago, still have it. This bike take me into another world, real quality, well designed and so easy to ride. Whisper quiet, gears seem to be well spaced but have not done any long journeys. For the money it is outstanding and I am glad I put a little more into the budget, not really convinced that I could have done better spending more - Only thing I would have liked is a chain guard as this is a hybrod bike.

Cheap stem

I bought the Ridgeback Velocity from another retailer (On Your Bike - London Bridge), but use Evans for almost everything else.
In less than a month, my handlebars became loose and when tightened, the bolts were stripped and now the stem has to be replaced.
I was very disappointed after less than a month's use.
Overall, the bike is good, but the stem is obviously very cheap or this would not have happened so soon.

Recently retired I thought that I would buy a bike to improve my fitness and get to know the lanes and villages around my home better. I ordered the ridgeback after some research on the internet and the very positive comments on the Evans website.
After a very slow start, not having riden a bike for 30 years or so, I am now thoroughly enjoying the expeience. The ridgeback is everything that other reviewers say it is. Comfortable, lightish, great gears that enable me an oldy to get up most of the hills I have encountered in the first few weeks of back to cycling. I am looking to extend my distances when the current weather allows. Thanks to Evans for excellent service.

Cons: Heavy

I'm an overwight, unfit, smoker and was totally new to cycling when I got this bike. Despite my lack of physical ability, I had no problems commuting an 8 mile round trip on this bike every day. The gears are incredibly smooth, the ride is comfortable and it's nice and easy to get some speed up. This bike has turned me into a bicycle enthusiast in just 4 weeks, and I'll never get back on a bus again, unless I have to!

Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Looks great

Cons: add rear mud guard

This is a good light wieght bike. Wouldnt go off road as i think wheels would cope with terrain. Gears could be better, dont really need so many gears.
