It was only a matter of time before the weight and strength benefits they were seeing in our other carbon fibre bikes tempted Santa Cruz to apply the material to the V10, with the same goals: reduce weight, gain strength. In this instance there was an additional goal: put the prototypes under the Santa Cruz Syndicate riders and go win World Cup Downhill races. Halfway through the 2010 season, the bike pictured here is still a prototype Syndicate frame, the frame weighs a pound less than the aluminium frame it will supercede, and the new V-10c had won two out of three World Cups, finished third once, and was leading the World Cup Overall. Only a prototype, already a winner. Now the Santa Cruz V10 Carbon (Vivid Air) 2012 Mountain Bike Frame can be yours to build up with your favourite kit for a truly special ride.
- Frame:
216-254mm adjustable rear wheel travel, Adjustable head angle, VPP multi pivot frame design, Recommended/Compatible with fork sizes 180mm to 203mm, Recommended rear max tire size – 2.7", Disc brake specific design, rotors up to 203mm, 1.5" head tube (Comes with CC Angleset as standard), Uses 12mm through axle x 150mm width rear hub, ISCG-05 chainguide mount
- Shock:
Rockshox Vivid Air
- Shock Mounting Size:
The V10 uses a 9.5×3″ rear shock (240×76mm) the mounting hardware is M8x22 (or 21.8mm if purchasing RockShox)
- Recommended Fork Length:
200mm – The V10c was designed to accept the short BoXXer crown, and the stock Fox 40 or 888 crown. If using the Fox 40 crown make sure you have one 5mm headset spacer underneath the upper crown to avoid any interference with the top tube. If you want to use a tall BoXXer crown to raise the handlebar up, check for interference between the crown and toptube at full steering lock. Pad the crown as needed to avoid chipping the paint
- Headset:
Cane Creek Angleset. Included with the AngleSet are 0deg, +/-0.5deg, and +/-1deg cups
- Bottom Bracket/Crank Size:
The V10 uses an 83mm bb (for 55-57mm chainline), so pretty much anything built for 83mm will fit. If using a Truvativ Howitzer setup, the 56mm chainline version is required
- Chainguide Compatibility:
The V10 uses ISCG05 tabs, and most any guide made for this application should bolt right on. We have used the MRP G2, Gamut, and E13 LG1/SRS with success
- Seatpost:
The V10 requires a 30.9mm seatpost. Make sure it is always inserted a minimum of 100mm into the frame
- Accessories:
SCB rear axle for 150×12 hubs, Grease Gun, Grease, Chainstay protector, Rear Shock Owners Manual
- Weight:
Frame weight with DHX RC4 Coil Kashima – approx 9.92bs
- Extra Features:
To change travel on the V10, simply remove the bolt at the rear of the shock, and flip the stainless inserts around. Put the bolt back in the new position, and you are done. If your bike has a Vivid Air, change the air pressure so you get the amount of sag you like (our setup guide has good starting pressures). If your bike has a coil shock, we recommend dropping the spring by #50 when changing to 8.5" travel mode. When changing to 8.5" travel mode, you will want to change the damping settings to work with the reduced leverage ratio. In addition, the chainguide can be rotated further clockwise in the 8.5" mode. Just make sure to move it back when going back to 10" mode
