The Specialized BG Defroster MTB Shoes is a 3/4 height shoe which features a waterproof inner liner and neoprene cuff for bad weather protection. - Minimal seams reduce the risk of trail snagging. - Cold conditions insulation comes from additional insulation in the toe box and around the SPD cleat area. - Features the high performance BG footbed that ensure a happy matrimony between body and bike with a direct link to an increase in efficiency and comfort - The BG footbed supports the arch of the foot transmitting every watt you generate straight to the pedal. - Built into every BG footbed is a 1.5mm angle that results in better alignment of the knee over the foot throughout the pedal stroke boosting efficiency and comfort - BG shoes employ the Metatarsal Button which lifts and separates the long bones of the forefoot so that the nerves and arteries between them do not get compressed eliminating hot foot and numbness.

Good waterproof & cold weather shoes

I bought these shoes as they seem to be based on my other specialized shoes, so I was expecting the same great fit and comfort. I wasn’t disappointed.

Some people suggested getting a size up to allow for bigger socks. I didn’t do this as the shoes could still be worn with mid weight socks without any problem and that made all the difference for cold weather riding.

The shoes aren’t super toasty like some winter shoes, BUT they are just right for cold wet days. In normal shoes a quick puddle splash would mean cold feet for the rest of the ride. This does not happen in the defrosters. Despite being sealed in I have not had any issue with sweaty feet so far.

The only negative is that the sole is a little flexi which means if you use thin socks you can feel the peddle. In reality this is not an issue as you wouldn’t really be wearing thin socks in the climate that these are intended for.

Originally bought for MTB night riding but have found that they are [perfect for commuting too.

A good warm comfortable shoe

Pros: Good value, Good quality, Comfortable

I've worn this shoe for 3-4 winter MTB rides so far. Lovely and warm. I've been out is some ver wet conditions, and as long as I don't hit puddles full on, giving them a complete dosing, then they seem to hold out the splashes OK.

The sizing seems spot on - I'm normally a 44, with a broad foot and these fit perfectly in a 44.

At over £40 cheaper than Shimano and Northwave brands, I think I have spent wisely.

I have only been using these shoes for about a month but it has definately made my winter cycling experience more enjoyable from having warmer feet !!

I havent used them in extreme weather but so far so good and on the coldest day i've used them ( about -4) along with a pair of merino socks my feet were toasty

I cant comment on the waterproofness yet as i have yet to go out in heavy rain but from general wearing on wet muddy days my feet have stayed dry so i cant see any major problems ahead

If i was to have any doubts with the shoe it would be on the lace system which is wired with a tensioner which i feel could fail if over tightened but as this is guaranteed for the life of the shoe (i think!) there should hopefully be no problems

Good winter shoes

Pros: Good value, Good quality, Comfortable

I ride a road bike but use SPD shoes as I like to be able to walk around in my cycling shoes. I have a pair of summer specialized cycling shoes in size 44 but bought these in size 45 to wear thicker winter socks and the size is just right [my normal non cycling shoes are 10/44]. These shoes have no vents to let the cold in so will keep you warmer for longer and the insulation inside helps also.Probably eventually on a longer ride you will still get cold feet but these will keep you warmer for longer than normal well ventilated summer cycling shoes.These are a bit clumpy looking but I like having warm feet.At the price they are now I think they are a good buy.
