No, I do not recommend this product.

Pros: Good quality, Looks great

Cons: Heavy, Expensive

I bought this bike for my 3 and 1/2 year old son, as his first bike with pedals (he's already got the early rider type with no pedals).
The bike is built using pipes and wealdings that could probably support an adult. It actually looks fantastic, super well built and sturdy.
It turns out that the big con is that it is extremelly heavy for a child learning to ride.
My son is barely able to start moving it and it is far from having fun on it yet.
Hence, I have decided to postpone the cycling teaching now for a few months so I don't make him averse to cycling. I'd say it's all due to the weight of this sturdy bike.

Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Looks great, Good quality

Cons: Expensive

The Specialised Hotrock 12 is a lightweight yet sturdy bike. I fully expect it to last for both my young children. Admittedly it is expensive but you are paying for quality. The back pedal brake is easily mastered and gives the child confidence that they can stop quickly if their hands are too weak to apply sufficient power to the front brake. My daughter loves the colour and it's not Pink, Win!!

Great First Bike for Kids

Cons: Expensive

You might think a Specialized cycle for a 3 year old is somewhat overkill, and in many ways you'd be right. Two things swung my decision to purchase this over a £60 cheapo from Toys'R'us...

1. Build quality - Straight out of the box, there was nothing loose, badly fitted or anything like that. It's good to check anyway, but it was obvious that this had been through a decent QA process which is reassuring.

2. This is the big one - Weight. This bike is appreciably lighter than cheaper models, which makes all the difference in beating the intertia to get the bike going from stand-still. Little legs don't have much power, so the lighter the bike, the better.

A well built bike, with a price to match - But what price your piece of mind?
