Good road bike

I bought this bike a couple of months ago and have done about 300K on it. I use it to commute to work exclusively on roads. I have the 17.5 inch frame which is just about big enough for me (5'10'') but might have to change the stem with a slightly longer one to make it perfect. I have changed the handlebars mainly because the original ones are too wide for me but I have to be honest I didn't find them akward or uncomfortable, just too big. I have also replaced the pedals with shimano clip-ons, once again mainly out of personal preference. The quality of the components is pretty good without being great. The shimano shifters and brakes work well even though I've already had to adjust them a couple of times at least. I do come from a road background and I am used to Campagnolo components which are definitely higher quality. I've put mudguards on and it's a bit tricky with the disc brakes on the front wheel, but Evans will fit them for you and they'll do an excellent job. I find the bike excellent on the Glasgow roads (which are pretty bumby), light enough and ideal for commuting. All in all an excellent purchase and the service from Evans was very good too.

Ive probably done about 150 miles on this bike so far. To and from work i do just over 5 miles each way, over some very rough and very smooth roads. Its pretty bumpy on rougher surfaces, and i sometimes think i should have gone for something with that can take a bit of the edge off. However in my budget, to get a bike with front suspension would have been a compromise on the quality of other parts, which i felt were ultimately more important. For example when you do get it on a nice bit of road it is a real joy to ride, its very smooth. I purposefully held back from reviewing this until after having the first 6 week service. I love the rapid fire "trigger" type shifters

I read a few reviews before going for it myself, and Id like to speak about a few issues raised by others. The handlebars arent much of a problem, as I had them adjusted slightly in store. Try before you buy! Or adjust them yourself if you find it uncomfortable, all you need is an allen key. Similarly with the pedals I had them replaced in store before riding it as they did look rather flimsy, so I really cant comment objectively on the "standard" set up. I can say that with these changes its does the job I need it to, and does rather well, you can get some good speeds on this, and maybe its cos im still getting back into riding regularly, but it does from time to time feel a tiny bit sluggish. Its probably slight slopes in the road because its usually pretty speedy. Good brakes for stopping fast in the notorious London traffic! The tyres are solid, no punctures thus far.

I used to do a lot of dirt jumping a while back, a fair bit of downhilling too, and used to ride a Saracen Dirtraxx, probably around 2001 model, it had front disc and front suspension but it was stolen! So a few years down the line my needs have changed and I need something that can deal with the years of riding i plan on giving it! Id say the ease with which the front wheel likes to turn is slightly dangerous, I intend to find out if I can get that changed but it seems a bit to sensitive and some unitnentional jolts do come from it! Overall this one is doing very well, I even get a few jumps off of the speed bumps from time to time ;p

Defiately a great bicycle for the money, but I have yet to see how it holds up against the test of time.

Fantastic!! I've had the bike for a month now and cycle about 100km a week commuting from work in the City to North London and back. The bike is a joy to ride. The disk brakes are totally sure (especially in wet weather). The riding position is really comfortable and the handling on London's variable road quality is excellent. Can't really fault it. If you after a "commuting" bike, this is safe, comfortable and responsive.

Really great bike, hate the handle bars

Cons: bent handlebars

Just bought this bike and rode around for a while. It flies along tarmac, a real pleasure to ride. I will be using it to commute about 6 hours a day, and definitely think it will be a great ride.

My only gripe is with the handlebars, they're bent in a weird shape. They look pretty cool, but when riding your hands get bent outwards with respect to your wrists - excruciatingly uncomfortable! There are a few ways around this: unscrew the head and twist the handlebars down (works very well if you ride high) or alternatively just swap in a straight bar.

The kit it comes with is really lovely, nice Bontranger saddle and handlebars with orange highlights. Bontranger tyres also, very narrow and slick but as a previous reviewer mentioned not very strong for anything other than tarmac, I swapped them out in the store for stronger tyres since I'll be riding on towpaths.

All in all, a very good bike - for this price, the fact that it comes with a very good set of disk brakes and nice kit is really excellent. Beware of the handlebar and be prepared to deal with it, several previous reviewers noted this also - but other than that, really pleased with this bike.

One last point - if buying a rear rack, make sure to go for the Topeak Super Tourist rack, and choose the one specifically designed for disk brakes - no other rack will fit!
