Winter riding
Ride It! is a year round series. Winter rides (Nov - Feb) have the following additions to our usual format:
Winter start times
Due to the short days, riders taking part in medium and long routes must start before 9:45am, riders taking part in the fun and short routes can start at any time up to 10:30am.
Riders need to maintain a reasonable speed over the route. If the event staff feel you may not complete the route in a timely manner you may be asked to switch to a shorter route or take a short-cut back to the event centre.
Winter route distances
Off-road route distances may be shorter than those advertised depending on trail conditions. Typical ride times are likely to be the same despite the shorter distances!
For the sportive road ride medium routes will be no longer than 45 miles and long routes will be no longer than 70 miles.
Be prepared
Riding on a cold, crisp winters morning is a breathtaking experience. But riders should be prepared for wet and windy conditions.
Although our event staff are on hand and sweep the routes, riders should be self sufficient in the event of an emergency. This includes, but is not limited to taking a phone, first aid kit and a light.
Winter riding advice
With the right equipment riding through the winter can be extremely enjoyable, comfortable and hassle free.
