Bike Servicing

It is vitally important that you keep your bike well maintained. A well maintained bike performs at its best and is a pleasure to ride and also ensures that your components last longer.

Much maintenance can be carried out at home with a workstand and the right tools. Naturally you also need to know what you are doing! To assist you in this we also carry a range of bike maintenance books.

Some basic maintenance tips are provided in the Maintaining your own bike section

We would encourage all riders to learn at least how to change their inner tube but of course not everyone has the space, time, tools or ability to carry out all the work on their bike! Thankfully all of our stores have full workshop facilities (except Waterloo Road, whose servicing requirements are catered for by our Waterloo Cut store, which is only 200 yards away).

These workshops are fully equipped to carry out all necessary repairs and have between two and eight qualified mechanics per store (dependent on size of the store). All of our mechanics undergo regular assessment and are trained to the highest standards in the industry, with them receiving formal external recognition through the Cytech qualifications. We are the only cycle retailer that has its own dedicated full-time mechanic trainer and in-house training facility, which enables us to ensure that our mechanics maintain our high standards.

Many of our stores open at 8am during the week to enable you to get your bike in before you go to work and close at 8pm to give you plenty of time to collect your bike after work.

First Service Free of charge

During the first few weeks of riding parts of the bike tend to work their way loose and out of alignment. This can lead to the bike performing sub-optimally leading to undue wear.

For this reason we offer a first service free of charge on all new bikes. This service should be carried out between 3-8 weeks of purchasing the bike (dependent on use) and can be booked at any of our stores (Mail Order/Internet customers can also have this work carried out at any of our stores).

Frequency of Servicing

In addition to your first free service we offer two main categories of service – a stage 1 and a stage 2 service. A stage 1 service is a general check-over for your bike and is recommended to be carried out every 3-9 months dependent on use.

A stage 2 service is a complete overhaul and involves stripping your bike down to the frame and its components. This is recommended to be carried out every 12-18 months dependent on use.

For full details of the work involved and the pricing please see our workshop pricing page

Suspension Servicing

If your bike has either front or rear suspension fitted then it is vitally important that you also have this serviced regularly. Suspension units should be serviced every 3-12 months (dependent on use) to ensure they work optimally.

For full details of the work involved and the pricing please see our Suspension Servicing page

Other Servicing

In addition to the free service, stage services and suspension servicing we offer a full range of other servicing – from building a wheel to repairing a puncture or fitting a light set.
