Truly the mother of the folding bike, Brompton began back in 1975 when Andrew Ritchie made the first folding bike in his flat opposite the Brompton Oratory, hence the name. Since then, their popularity has grown year-on-year, still making over 45,000 folding bikes per year as the UK’s largest bike manufacturer. The folding bike was made to increase people’s sense of independence and freedom in the city, providing a low-cost, environmentally friendly form of transport that can be folded down to fit under a chair. With the increasing popularity of electric bikes in recent years, Brompton has developed an electric folding bike, offering the same convenience of a folding bike, but with the added power and range of an electric bike.
