Charity Spotlight: Guildford Bike Project

Trade-In is back for 2018 and there are many good reasons why it’s our favourite campaign: It’s springtime and everyone is getting back into the spirit of cycling, customers can save on a shiny new bike while decluttering their sheds or garages at the same time, and, best of all, each and every donated bike serves a good cause! Proud to be working with 18 social enterprises across the UK, here we put the spotlight on our different partner charities throughout the campaign. Here we introduce the Guildford Bike Project..

Prime aim

Everyone needs a bike! So we aim to get as many people as possible on decent refurbished bikes and recycle as many bikes as we can in the process and to train people with life skills to get them into employment.

3 employees and 35 regular volunteers.

Workshops/courses given

Level 1 & Level 2 City and Guilds Cycle Mechanics. Traineeships for 16-24 year olds including Work Experience, Employability Skills plus Maths and English Functional Skills.

Most favourite anecdote

Supplying a local young man’s family with a tandem bike to help facilitate his recovery after a brain tumour left him with only 20% eyesight in one eye.


How Evans Cycles Trade-In benefits the Guildford Bike Project

Providing us with more, higher quality, bikes to recycle locally helping us to reach more people and sustain the project for the benefit of the local community.


Future projects/ambitions

To offer a Level 3 Cycle Mechanics qualification. To offer a ‘Traineeship’ type course to adults (as well as young people) and to create apprenticeships for young people in partnership with the local bike industry.
