FOX AW18 Q&A

With the UCI Mountain Bike world championships getting underway in Switzerland, here at Evans Cycles were celebrating all things MTB in conjunction with FOX as they launch their AW18 clothing range. From rugged and waterproof shorts and pants, through super breathable jackets, to some great looking new helmet colourways the range is stunning. We recently sat down with FOX clothing merchandiser Robert Robinson to discuss the new range in full.

Can you give us an overview of the AW range, what was the main aim for this season?

RR: In Fall ’17 we partnered with some outdoor industry leading technologies not used in mountain bike right now and had a great success in the marketplace! Fall ‘18’s goal is to build on this and educate the mountain bike consumer using our very simple categorization Water, Fire and Wind products

 >>Shop the full FOX range here<<

What were the biggest challenges you faced in developing the new range?

RR: Using fabrics developed for the outdoor world and military. We had to adapt this to the MTB riders demands and needs through to the fit, mobility and styling. We’re very happy with the results.

What can we expect to see from the Flux and Proframe helmets this season?

RR: Continued marketing support and focus on these helmets all year round! These are two of our flagship products we have a clear focus on. We also have some rad new colourways!

We’ve seen MIPS technology becoming more and more prevalent in recent years, what’s Fox’s take on the technology and will we see it spread through the whole range in future?

RR: It has almost become an industry standard here in Europe to provide rotational impact protection systems in helmets in ski, bike and motocross. Safety is the top of the list when developing helmets at FOX. We embrace rotational systems and there will be a clear focus in the future for sure.

Is there one piece of tech that you are particularly proud of?

RR: We have partnerships with both Polartec and Cordura. These two technologies for us are incredible as we can work with these companies on building specific materials for heat regulation and impact protection for the Mountain Bikers unique needs.

When selecting fabrics what are the main considerations?

RR: Performance ALWAYS comes first! And then as you know, we can sure make these products look bad ass…

What’s your favourite piece from the new range and why?

RR: I have two! Coming from the North of the UK I understand the needs for staying warm and dry on the trails.

-The Attack Pro Fire Jacket not only keeps you warm when you’re sat at the trail head ready to pedal, but regulates body temperature like nothing else when you’re sprinting or climbing hard with the Polartec Alpha technology

-The Attack Water Pant is an incredible fully sealed, pedal friendly, MTB cut pant with immense breathability, we’ve all been looking forward to this pant hitting the market

What can we expect to see more of in the future from Fox?

RR: We are strengthening our relationships with Polartec and Cordura more and more going forward, expect to see some insane MTB technology very soon.. If I told you I’d have to kill you.
