GORE® Wear launch new C7 bib short range

GORE® Wear launch their most innovative range of performance bib shorts this summer, working closely with Brand Ambassador Fabian Cancellara to bring to the market their most comfortable bib shorts to date.

The C7 bib shorts are available in 3 different versions: a RACE, VENT and arguably most popular LONG DISTANCE bib.

Cancellara challenged Gore Wear to really throw out the rule book when it came to developing the new C7 bib short, and the result is a quite radical design with numerous interesting features.

Construction

The starting point was to focus on the seat insert and to ensure it stayed in the perfect position at all times. GORE® designed what they call the “central torso architecture” which builds the entire bib short around the chamois and a central piece of material which it is cradled in. The remainder of the short is then built around this central section to create an exceptionally comfortable short.

Cancellara also challenged GORE® to use fewer seams within the shorts to increase comfort, wide seamless shoulder straps for greater comfort next-to-skin and particular attention was given to the design of the silicone lined hems, using only minimal silicone on the leg gripper and ensuring as much of the soft, stretchy fabric is next to the skin.

Chamois

The seat inserts in the RACE, VENT & DISTANCE bibs are all foam, with different levels of density spread across the chamois. For example, the RACE bib is designed for an aggressive road cycling position, with the rider on the ‘drops’ and in a more fixed position, whereas the DISTANCE bib has a wider-spread chamois as the rider will change position on the bike more over a longer riding period.

The three new pads also feature a novel WINDSTOPPER® cup at the front of the pad. Quite simply it adds a panel of GORE®’s famous WINDSTOPPER® fabric to the front region of the pad that offers an exceptionally soft feel that is extremely breathable and offers wind protection in changeable temperatures.

Lycra

GORE® then used 3 different Lycra in each version. The RACE version uses an exceptionally stretchy fabric that is designed to offer a really aerodynamic fit and performance.

The VENT version is designed all around hot weather riding and indoor training, using highly breathable, lightweight and quick-drying fabrics. The VENT is a great option for riders heading abroad this summer as well as a staple bib for indoor training sessions

In the DISTANCE version, GORE® used a knit fabric that offers an exceptionally soft, silky feel. This will probably be the pick of the range with a much more versatile and wider use range plus the fabric feels amazing to touch/ wear

Cancellara had this to say about the design construction of the new C7 bibs: “Whether you’re out for a ride with your friends or want to attack in a race: nothing bothers cyclists more than a seat insert that won’t stay put – it’s the key link between cyclist and bike, after all. As long as you are sitting still in the saddle your central torso position does not change. But be careful if you start moving out of the saddle to unleash an attack, slip sideways on the saddle in a chicane or try to bridge the gap between you and the tête de la course with an unsteady pedal stroke. Then there is a huge risk that this movement will cause the seat insert to shift, making you uncomfortable and spoil any kind of ride; from races to leisurely jaunts.”
