Nothing says summer quite as well as hues of burnt orange and bright blue. If Kalf’s new vibrant spring/summer 2018 collection doesn’t make you want to get out on your bike, and update your cycling wardrobe, then we don’t know what will. Here’s a first look at the brand’s offering – only at Evans Cycles.
With spring allegedly around the corner, rider’s thoughts will turn to riding regularly outdoors and ultimately, to what kit is needed or what’s going on their wish list. Last year saw the introduction of Kalf’s debut season release, offering style and substance. Their new range sees the addition of both new items, plus a striking new colour palette. Inspired by the sight of a burning evening sun and a handful of bold hues – Kalf has produced a vibrant SS18 collection. One of the main components is the introduction of orange tones into the range, but in such a way that it doesn’t become a typical florescent colour. Elsewhere sees the introduction of some key items, such as a premium lightweight jacket, to expand your choice of options for all conditions.
Kalf Club Lightweight Gilet (Unisex)
Every cycling wardrobe needs a go-to item when the weather is unpredictable. Enter the Kalf Club Lightweight Gilet – versatile, packs down into a back pocket but up to the job when required. Essentially, it is an extra layer that helps keep the wind and rain off your torso – enough to get you home, or to your destination in a degree of comfort. The Kalf Club Lightweight Gilet is a welcome addition to the range, especially when the weather can be a little varied in across the UK seasons and is available in a very visible bright peach.
To prevent over-heating, the rear panel is made from a breathable-mesh with zipped pocket to keep your essentials dry and easy to reach. To make your items easier to access, or just to help ventilate your body, the front zip is two way – so no excuses to overheat. The gilet is made from a stretch shell fabric that is both windproof and water-resistant. The arm cuffs are elasticated to help with the fit and comfort. To help keep any unwanted chill out, the collar offers a good level of protection given its height. The side panels and longer back ensure there is a good fit when you are on the bike. Finally, completing the look, there are the signature Kalf reflective details on the gilet.
Kalf Flux Lightweight Jacket
Ask any rider, there is nothing worse than starting out in dry, warm conditions only to get caught in a sudden downpour. What you need is a lightweight jacket that packs down small, but provides high-performance protection. For SS18, Kalf have introduced the Flux Lightweight Jacket. It meets the requirements of being light, easy to stow when not in use, but also very good at what it is designed for – keeping out the elements. This isn’t at the expense of comfort either.
The Flux Lightweight Jacket is windproof and highly water-resistant, yet breathable and comfortable. Weighing in at only 130g (size M), the jacket has a water-resistant zip and the collar has brushed polyester on the inside for additional comfort. As with the Club Lightweight Gilet, the cut has been designed to accommodate the rider’s position on the bike, with a lower back panel, so even in the drops you are covered. To finish the jacket, there are reflective details and elasticated cuffs. The collar is designed with a suitable height, so that you don’t feel exposed around your neck when the wind gets up. This is a proven winner on wet rides for the Kalf SS18 collection.
Kalf Club Men’s and Women’s SS Jersey
The Kalf Club Short Sleeve Jersey has been designed as a relaxed fit top for days when you just want to enjoy riding. With training or easy rides in mind, this jersey uses a combination of different fabric panels to help breathability and the quality of fit. This latest version has tonal prints to offer something different, with the Kalf logo printed across the chest. There is a full-length zip, and on the rear, you get the standard three pocket configuration, with a zipped pocket for valuables on the side. As you’d expect from the Kalf range, there are reflective elements that not only add a little style, but offer an element of safety in the key areas.
There have also been updates to the Kalf Flux Men’s & Women’s Jerseys – in striking tri and two-tone colourways – as well as the Terra range.
Kalf Club Women’s ¾ Waist Tights
A new addition to the Kalf SS18 collection, is the women’s ¾ tights, using a very flexible warp knit fabric with a four-way stretch. The knee panels are articulated for a better fit and shape, with a perforated shell fabric on the rear for optimum stretch, weather protection and an individual look.
The pad is high-density and lightweight, so not to compromise fit or functionality. It is made from a premium Elastic Interface insert, with innovative hybrid cell technology and designed specifically for the female anatomy, exclusive to the brand. The waistband is elasticated and broad for a better, more comfortable fit, plus on the rear there is a high-rise panel to keep everything in place. The garment is finished off with reflective print and logos.
Kalf Flux Men’s and Women’s Waist Short
New to the Kalf SS18 line-up this season is the Flux Men’s and Women’s Waist Short. Joining the Club version in the range, the Flux shorts are form-fitting yet comfortable through the Italian stretchy high-modulus material. To ensure you are sitting comfortably, the pad is an innovative Elastic Interface insert with hybrid cell technology (and of course, specific to the men’s and women’s model). The legs are secured with an integrated cuff, which completes the low-profile finish. Around the back, the broad, high strength elastic waist band ensures a secure fit. Signature reflective Kalf print and logos also appear on the shorts.
Kalf Men’s and Women’s Sleeveless Baselayer
Another new addition to the Kalf SS18 range are the base layers for both sexes. They are high wicking, yet flexible, using ultrasonic bonding to ensure a seamless construction, thus providing a high level of comfort. The idea being you won’t notice you’re wearing one under your bibshorts or jersey. The knitted mesh is extremely breathable and made from a hybrid of polyester and lycra, retaining a light feel yet still soft next to the skin. They have been shaped to fit perfectly with the rest of your chosen cycling attire.
Kalf Oversock (Unisex)
Keeping your shoes clean and providing some extra protection for your feet can be a difficult choice. Too warm for full overshoes, but perhaps chilly enough to warrant extra coverage, you will be grateful for oversocks. Thinner than traditional options, the Kalf Oversocks give you an extra layer on those damp, cooler mornings or mountainous descents when you just need a bit more protection. The Kalf Oversocks are made from hard-wearing Cordura yarn, plus have a long cuff for added insulation and coverage. Shaped to fit securely over your shoes, they are also reinforced at the heel and toe, the key areas that receive the most wear and tear. The oversocks are proven to be easy to get on without too much struggle, whereas some can be a very tight fit. Adding to this ease, they keep still retain their shape and provide protection with an added element of style. Finishing touches include the signature reflective detailing, with the Kalf logo and chevron pattern on the back of the ankle.
Other new items to the collection include KALF Thermal Knee Warmers and the KALF Jacquard Tall Sock (Unisex).
