Specialized partnered with McLaren Applied Technologies to create the innovation that would make you faster and smoother. They wanted to move away from the traditional view of splay compliance which uses the bending of the fork and or frame and look at axial or vertical compliance, the movement of the bars relative to the front axle. The end result of this collaboration was, Future Shock. Offering up to 20mm of travel on a vertical path above the head tube.
It comes with the choice of three different springs with varying degrees of softness, when the bike encounters rough terrain, the frame will move up towards your hands whilst keeping forward momentum and without losing speed. Additionally there is no effect on the handling so you'll still get sharp, predictable handling and stiffness without compromising comfort.
To provide a complete solution, the rear is taken care of by introducing the CG-R seat post paired with a new Drop Clamp which provides 20 degrees of rearward compliance by keeping the saddle height consistent so the rider isn't bobbed around.
Specialized have created a bike that doesn't compromise speed over comfort or vice versa. The Roubaix reduces rider fatigue through greater frame compliance to increase smoothness and comfort with the additional benefit of enabling the rider to produce a more constant power output.
