What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file which we transfer to your device through your web browser when you visit our website or open certain emails. It enables our own system to recognise you when you visit our website again and improve our service to you. This information can be used to enhance the content of our website and make your use of it easier. For more information about cookies please visit www.allaboutcookies.org.

Unless you have adjusted your browser setting so that it will refuse cookies, our system will issue cookies when you log on to our site.

Three types of cookie may be used during your visit to www.evanscycles.com

Session cookies

Which allow the site to ‘remember’ content from page to page and are deleted after each visit.

Evanscycles.com persistent cookies

Which are saved on your computer for a fixed period (usually a year or longer) and are not deleted when the browser is closed. Persistent cookies are used where we need to know who you are for more than one browsing session. An example of when we might use these cookies would be to store your preferences, so that they are remembered for the next visit. Persistent cookies are not deleted after each visit.

Google Analytics & Bing Remarketing

In addition to the above, Google Analytics & Bing Remarketing also collect or try to determine information in regards to Gender/Age/Interests/Device based on information you provide to Google & Bing across their independent networks (e.g. Google: Gmail, YouTube etc.) and websites in their advertising network you browse (again anonymised and/or aggregated), which we use to show you personalised offers or product recommendations when you browse other sites. E.g. if Google determines your gender is female and you have searched for a road bike on Google in the last 14 days, we might show you an offer for a women’s Pinnacle road bike instead of a generic offer on cycling clothing on one of their partner sites.

Google Adwords/ Bing Ads

Shows us at an aggregated/anonymised level which visitors have come from the Google/Bing search engine, clicked on a paid advertisement and made (or not) a transaction as a result. Hotjar

Hot Jar records anonymised browsing sessions on just our site to help us understand pain points in the customer journey, which we use to tailor the customer experience. For example, we might see that many users are having the same issue navigating from our product pages back to the category level, so we would add a link on the product pages, back to the category to ease this.

Fusepump

We use this this to track when visitors to our site click on one of our product ads across Google, Awin and other providers, in order to detect issues with the product information that we submit to them

Criteo

Optimizely

This collects information about visitor behaviour on site, for example what banners they have clicked on, actions taken and allow us to perform A/B split testing within the website. I.e it allows us to present alternative pages and content to specific visitors on our site, so that we can compare the effectiveness. For example we might show one group of users a lifestyle image with a model in the photo for one of our cycling clothing products and another group will be shown it without a model in order to test to see which drives more purchases.

Smart Assistant

This is a tool that asks customers a series of questions to help narrow down our product catalogue to the most relevant selection of products. Data is collected in relation to how visitors interact with the tool (i.e. clicks on the banners/filters and completion rates of forms)

Brompton

We have a cookie on specific pages on Brompton’s website (https://www.brompton.com/), which allows us to show Brompton related offers from Evans Cycles to users who have visited their website, via our advertising partners (e.g. Turn)

Barilliance

We display this information to give a sense to the user of what products are popular with other users.
